Getting started
For a walkthrough of the app, start with the Sankalpa app guide. The answers below cover common questions and troubleshooting.
Where is my journal stored?
Your reflections, drafts and moods are stored on your iPhone. Sankalpa does not send them to an app server or an AI service, and we do not hold a server copy.
Your device or iCloud backup may include local app data, depending on your settings. See the privacy policy’s backup explanation.
Do I need an account?
No. Sankalpa does not have a sign-in or an app account. A name, reminders and access to Photos are optional. You can read without enabling them.
Apple handles any available in-app purchases through your Apple account. That is separate from your personal writing in Sankalpa.
How do I choose a focus?
Open Profile → Focus to change your focus choices. The app includes six focus areas. In Profile → Affirmation library, the All topics filter lets you browse the library by focus.
Start with a thought that feels useful today. You can favorite words you want to return to, or write something of your own.
Can I use Sankalpa offline?
The included affirmations, illustrations and instrumental music are bundled with the app. Reading, local writing and playing included music do not need an app-operated cloud service.
Installing or updating the app, making or restoring Apple purchases, opening external links, and sending email can require an internet connection. Access to paid features still depends on the access available in your app version.
Is Sankalpa a treatment or a guided therapy app?
No. Affirmations, journal reflections, mood entries and instrumental music are for personal reflection. They do not diagnose or treat a condition or replace medical or psychological care. The meditation music has no spoken guidance.
Your words and journal
How do I add my own affirmation?
Open Profile → Affirmation library. In My library, tap the plus button, labelled Add affirmation. Write your words, choose a focus and tap Save.
The editor accepts up to 280 characters. A short sentence that feels believable and kind is a useful starting point. Use the library to return to your personal affirmations or remove one you no longer want.
Does my journal save automatically?
Your unfinished reflection draft is stored locally as you type. To turn it into a saved journal entry, tap Save reflection. When editing an existing reflection, use Save to keep the changes.
A draft and a saved entry are different. Before resetting data or deleting the app, export any writing you want to keep.
The writing example on this website behaves differently: it is temporary, is not saved or sent, and clears when you reload or leave the page.
How do I revisit, edit or delete a reflection?
Open Journal and use its day selection or history to find an entry. Search and date filters help narrow your history. If an entry seems missing, check the selected day and clear any search or filters first.
Open the entry’s Reflection options menu to choose Edit reflection, Share reflection or Delete reflection. Deletion asks you to confirm.
Will my journal or moods appear in a widget?
No. Journal and mood entries are not widget content. Widgets show included daily thoughts by default. If you choose favorites or personal affirmations as the widget source, those words can appear on your Home or Lock Screen.
Widgets
How do I add a widget to my iPhone?
For the Home Screen, touch and hold an empty area, choose Edit → Add Widget, find Sankalpa, select a size and tap Add Widget.
For the Lock Screen, touch and hold the Lock Screen, choose Customize, then select the Lock Screen and its widget area. Choose Sankalpa from the available widgets. The exact steps can vary with your iOS version.
Apple’s current widget instructions cover both screens.
How do I change what my widget shows?
Open Profile → Home and Lock Screen widgets. The Your widgets screen lets you choose appearance and content. Changes save automatically. You can also touch and hold a widget and choose Edit Widget to adjust that widget’s overrides.
Widgets use included daily thoughts by default. Favorites and personal words can be visible to anyone who can see your Home or Lock Screen. Your journal and moods are never widget content.
Why has my widget not changed yet?
Thoughts are scheduled to change about every three hours, but iOS controls the exact refresh time. Opening the app and reviewing your widget settings can help confirm the selected source.
If your chosen personal-word source is empty, the widget shows daily thoughts until you save your first phrase. Also check whether Edit Widget has an override that differs from the app’s settings.
Music and reminders
How do I use the meditation timer?
On the meditation screen, choose a soundscape and a Session length, then tap Play music. You can adjust Music volume, pause or resume, and choose End session whenever you wish.
The audio is instrumental music without narration. Changing soundscape ends the current session; tap Play music to begin again.
Why does the music stop when I lock my iPhone?
Playback stops when you leave the meditation screen or lock your iPhone. Keep that screen open for the session. If a track cannot play, try it again or choose another soundscape.
Check both the in-app Music volume and your iPhone’s audio output if you cannot hear it.
How do I set or turn off reminders?
Open Profile → Daily rhythm to adjust your daily affirmation reminders. You can choose once, twice or three times a day. For multiple reminders, allow at least 30 minutes between scheduled times.
Reminders follow your local time zone. Turn them off in Sankalpa or manage the app’s notification permission in iOS Settings. If reminders are silent or missing, check your iPhone’s Focus and notification settings. Reminder messages contain no private writing.
Photos and backgrounds
Why does Sankalpa ask for photo permission?
Choosing your own background uses the iOS photo picker, so you select which image the app receives. Sankalpa creates a smaller local copy without the original photo metadata.
Saving a designed image to Photos needs permission to add photos. It does not require access to your entire library. You can keep reading if you decline permission.
Does removing a background delete my original photo?
No. Removing an imported background removes Sankalpa’s copy. The original remains in Photos. Images you have already exported or saved to Photos also remain until you delete those copies separately.
Export, delete and recover
How do I keep a copy of my writing?
Open Profile → Export your words. This creates a readable text file containing your intention, favorites, personal words, saved reflections, mood history and unfinished draft, where present. Choose a destination in the iOS file picker.
This is a writing export, not a complete backup. It does not include every setting or picture, and there is no import feature that rebuilds your app from this file. The destination you choose is responsible for the exported copy.
How do I reset my personal data?
Export anything you want to keep first. Then open Profile → Reset personal data and read the confirmation before choosing Reset data.
Reset removes reflections, favorites, personal affirmations, moods, reminders and customization from the device, including the imported background. It does not delete Apple purchases, original photos, previously exported files or older device backups.
Can you recover deleted or missing writing?
We cannot access or recover writing stored on your device, and do not hold a server copy. Check your journal’s selected day, search and filters before concluding that an entry is missing. If you previously exported your words, check the destination you selected.
A device backup may contain earlier app data, depending on your backup settings and timing. Recovery is handled through Apple’s device backup tools and is not guaranteed. A device restore can affect other data, so review Apple’s backup guidance before making changes.
Do not delete or reinstall the app as a first troubleshooting step when it contains writing you wish to keep. Restore purchases restores eligible access, not your journal.
Purchases
Does a trial automatically become a paid purchase?
No. Starting the trial does not trigger a later purchase. A paid unlock requires a separate purchase confirmed through Apple. The available trial, products and prices are shown by the version of the app you are using and Apple’s purchase sheet.
How do I restore an existing purchase?
Open the app’s Lifetime purchase screen from Profile and choose Restore purchases, where purchases are enabled. Make sure your iPhone uses the same Apple account as the original purchase and has an internet connection.
Restoring a trial preserves its original end date; it does not start a new trial. Restoring access does not restore journal entries or personal words. If restoration fails, follow Apple’s instructions for missing in-app purchases or contact us with the error message.
Who handles billing and refunds?
Apple handles in-app payments. Sankalpa does not process your card or bank details. Use Apple to check your purchase history or request a refund. We cannot approve a refund on Apple’s behalf.
